Engineer and surveyor with MARTIN, OTTAWAY, van HEMMEN & DOLAN, INC. Areas of specialization include ship surveying, auditing, claim formulation, electrical and electronic systems, failure, structural and cost analysis.

1988 – 1989

Contracted with C.L.D.A. INC. Engaged in transfer of engineering drawings to CAD systems.

1987

Employed as an assistant designer with JOHAN VALENTIJN INC. during college workshop period. Designed electrical installation for a 33-foot production powerboat. Engaged in production of detailed drawings of various yacht fittings and systems such as electrical wire layout, keel joints, window treatments, rudder gudgeon and pintles. Carried out hydrodynamic calculations for winged keels. Given a concept for a new design, carried out market research to determine demand, price structure, and desired features, then produced preliminary sketches for a detailed proposal.

1985

Employed as a research assistant while working directly for a scientist engaged in developing highly efficient nickel/cadmium and amorphous silica solar cells, at BRITISH PETROLEUM INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH, INC. Carried out various tests using state of the art computers and measuring equipment. Designed and developed various measuring devices. Modified existing software programs to meet particular requirements for research projects. Produced detailed reports on data collected.

1978 – 1984

Calibration lab supervisor and repair technician in the UNITED STATES NAVY. Responsible for calibration, testing, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance on various avionic test equipment and benches, such as tactical air navigation, fire control radar, autopilot and gyrocompass test sets, instrument navigation and identification friend or foe. Six year active duty in aviation intermediate maintenance department, three years of which were served on the U.S.S. “CORAL SEA”, CV-43. Honorable discharge.

Notable Projects

Assisting in the internal auditing of a major US tug and barge operator for compliance to the International Safety Management Code.

Failure analysis of shipboard electrical control and power systems.

Structural analysis of marine components in unusual loading conditions and analysis of numerous ship allisions with berths and bridges.

Hydrostatic calculations of vessels in extreme flooding scenarios.

Failure analysis of large, medium speed diesel engines as installed on ships for generator prime movers.

Development of Condition Survey procedures for a major P & I Club.
