This Year’s Christmas Present

I am a little late with this year’s Christmas present to our friends and clients. Last year it was a story, but this year I had a bit of a hard time trying to figure out a good present.

I was hoping for some inspiration and nothing showed up before Christmas, but the day after Christmas provided the solution.

I was working on various tasks,  one of which required me to review a recording of a presentation on engineering ethics that I made earlier this year. I found what I was looking for, but on the lower right hand corner of the YouTube screen I saw a teaser for the World Sailing Show. The day after Christmas is either quiet or crazy (depending on the number of disasters over the holiday), and since it was quiet, I allotted myself the half hour to watch the show.

It was wonderful, it renewed my sense of wonder and joy about sailing. Sailing has been, and always will be, my passion, but it is difficult to explain to those who have not been bitten. Meanwhile, if one considers the arc of the art on any level, whether human, engineering or beauty, it is breathtaking and this video provides an excellent sampling to the initiated and uninitiated alike. To those who think of sailing in terms of watching grass grow, this half hour will change your mind!

Take a moment to consider the beauty and the excitement of the world of sailing. This Christmas present will not be disappoint you.
