Served as onsite owner’s construction representative and Naval Architect for 72 meter, Project 237044 at Delta Marine, Seattle Washington.

Conrep, MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND, Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point Maryland.  Owner’s representative for the construction of two 500 foot, diesel powered, oceanographic research vessels.

1985 – 1986

Project Manager, EAGLE SYNDICATE – Supervised the construction of the 12 meter sailing yacht EAGLE at Williams and Manchester Shipyard in Newport RI.

Consultant, JOHAN VALENTIJN, INC., Newport RI – Provided Naval Architectural consulting specializing in the customization of existing IBM FORTRAN software for use in the EAGLE design effort. Worked on detailed design of custom components for the EAGLE and other yachts using CAD/CAM computer software.

1983 – 1985

Research Staff ORI INC., Silver Spring Maryland – Provided support to NAVSEA in their ship and submarine planning, design, and development activities. Efforts involved work on the SEAWOLF attack submarine with emphasis on data analysis related to vessel performance maneuvering and control, hydrodynamics, and stability.

Coordinated the scheduling of model testing and availability of facilities for the SEAWOLF class at DTNSRDC.  Provided constant monitoring of hull design and construction. Analyzed the effects of active roll stabilization on DD963, FFG7, DDG 51 classes of US Naval Ships.

Notable Projects

Preparation of a 45 meter vintage Benetti for sale.  This vessel had been mothballed for over a year but was sold in six months while undergoing refit on a very tight budget.

Owner’s representative for the construction of 96 meter motor yacht (Project 55) at Appledore and Devonport Shipyards.  Responsibilities included; contract compliance, supervision of model testing, equipment testing, steel and aluminum construction design and inspection. Prepared owner change orders as required.  Evaluated yard responses for completeness and for value for money.  After approval of change orders, progress and quality were monitored, whether on site or at contractor’s facilities.

During latter stages, responsibilities included supervision of final steel and aluminum construction, and final inspections of all spaces. In addition, inspection and supervision of exterior details including navigation and safety equipment, painting and fairing, deck machinery, teak installation, feature SS staircases and handrails.

Owner’s onsite construction representation of a 72 meter motor yacht in Seattle Washington, which included both project management and all hull and outfit inspections and other responsibilities similar to that of Project 55.

Completed a study to convert a 126 meter former British Military vessel into a luxury yacht for private use. Due to the various reasons including the large amount of Asbestos aboard the ship, the conversion plan was scrapped.

Consulted owners on purchase of new yachts versus the practice of purchasing and converting older steel yachts into more modern looking yachts.

Ran a successful study of the effects of trim tab modifications on 120 foot waterjet propelled yacht. The modifications were made in accordance with the study and increased the speed by over 30% without changing the power.

Providing Captain services (both temporary and full time) for yachts up to 50 meters on the waters of Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans and Mediterranean and adjoining seas.
