Areas of specialization include classification and regulatory matters, marine engineering, damage assessment, structural surveys, construction and repair supervision, industrial verification, risk management consulting, expert testimony in legal cases, casualty investigations, and quality, safety & environmental management consulting.

Corporate Vice President and Chief Surveyor

Provided technical leadership and promoted best practices and consistency throughout the global survey/audit operations for ABS. Acted as the final technical authority for survey/audit activities regarding the application and implementation of the ABS Rules, Statutory Regulations, and internal ABS policies, as well as responsible for the accuracy of the ABS Record. Under his leadership and guidance, ABS achieved the leading Port State Control performance of all global Classification Societies. Also, he was the lead expert within ABS to conduct internal investigations into service delivery cases and vessel casualties.

Corporate Vice President / Occupational Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management (HSQE)

Responsible for directing the company-wide activities of the Total Quality Management System (TQM), and operating within broad guidelines established by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ABS. The Department was charged with ensuring consistent implementation of policies and procedures covering all aspects of ABS’ operations. Carried out internal audits worldwide and assigned as the Company’s Management Representative. Also, developed and implemented the best-in-Class Safety Management System that resulted in ABS achieving zero lost-time work related injuries/illnesses for over two calendar years.

Corporate Vice President / Chief of Staff

Operating within broad guidelines established by the President and CEO of ABS, responsible for the activities of the following corporate departments: ABS Programs, Corporate Operations Applications Management, Rapid Response & Damage Assessment and the Brunswick Modeling Center. In addition, responsible for oversight of the company’s Enterprise Risk Management plan, Business Continuity Plans, and member of various Corporate Steering Committees.

2010 – 2011

ABS Greater China Division, Shanghai, PR China

Corporate Vice President / Division President & COO

Responsible for the overall operations of the newly established Greater China Division (established in October 2010). Drafted new business plan and implemented new Divisional organization. Responsibilities included implementing ABS Corporate strategic and business plans into the Greater China Division. Recruited key personnel for new positions and initiated new policies and practices in line with corporate expectations. Implemented strategic agreements with key business partners to leverage the ABS business relationships in China. Budget for 2011 was $139M with staffing of over 550 employees. Elected as ABS Member and ABS Corporate Officer.

Senior Vice President, Americas Division

Responsible for the overall survey operations of the Americas Division (North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean). Responsibilities included business development and marketing within the region, staffing, budgeting, and profit & loss. In addition, problem solving within operations relative to shipyards, ship owners and manufacturers. Budget for 2009 was over $108M with staffing of over 300 employees.

Senior Vice President

Responsible for expansion and growth of the worldwide business unit, including complete operational and P/L responsibility. Growth from 2007 to 2008 was $13.5M to $18.6M, with staff increase of 37 to 69, in offices in Brazil, Houston, London, Piraeus, and Singapore.

Regional Vice President, South Pacific Region

Responsible for the overall operation of the Southern Pacific Region (eleven countries from India to Vietnam and down to Australia and New Zealand). Responsibilities included business development and marketing within the region, staffing, budgeting, and profit & loss. In addition, problem solving within operations relative to shipyards, ship owners and manufacturers. As of Nov. ’07, the staffing consisted of over 160 employees, with revenues over $45 million.

Regional Vice President, North America Region

Responsible for the overall operation of the North American Region (the USA, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean). Responsibilities included business development and marketing within the region, staffing, budgeting, and profit & loss. In addition, problem solving within operations relative to shipyards, ship owners and manufacturers. As of Sept. ’03, the staffing consisted of 172 employees, with revenues over $55 million.

Director – Safety Analysis

Responsible for the start-up operation of a new maritime safety analysis department within ABS. The department focused on promoting ABS as the leader in the analysis and dissemination of maritime safety (including casualty investigations) for information to both internal and external customers.

2001 – 2002

Director – Consulting Services

Responsible for the overall operation and management of the new start-up Consulting Services Division within ABS Group. This included P/L responsibility, client management, and overall departmental management of subordinates and sub-contractors. In addition, responsible for developing and implementing the strategic, business, and marketing plans for the Division.

2000 – 2001

Executive Assistant

Responsible for direct assistance to the Chairman/CEO and to the President/COO of ABS in all activities, including, but not limited to, strategic planning, business planning, analysis of management performance reports (capital and personnel), and attendance in executive and Board meetings. Additional tasks included actively monitoring industry developments and recommending alternatives for business opportunities. Extensive travel carried out in association with client and business meetings.

Extensive worldwide travel carried out to accomplish these responsibilities.

Responsible for the overall operation and management of the Beaumont port office. This included work scheduling, budgeting, account receivables, fee quotes and invoicing, client consultations, technical and operational approvals, project management, employee training, and employee performance evaluations and salary reviews. Carried out Classification and Statutory surveys.

ABS Pacific, Kobe, Japan

Senior Surveyor

Project Manager responsible for new construction of vessels and equipment. Projects included six (6) ship series of 4211 TEU Container Carriers “D-class” for Evergreen Marine; Main engine fabrication, Mitsubishi-Sulzer 12RTA84C-UG, 66120 HP and 7RTA58T, 16,700 HP; two (2) SPM Buoys for Termap and one (1) buoy for Essar. Initiated new six (6) ship series of 4948 TEU Container Vessels “U-class” for Evergreen Marine prior to transfer to Beaumont, Texas.

1995 – 1997

ABS Pacific, Koje Island, Korea

Surveyor

Project Manager responsible for new construction of vessels and equipment. Projects included one (1) 148,500 DWT Double Hull Oil Tanker for Thenamaris; and one (1) 168,000 DWT Bulk Carrier for Shogang. Assisted in construction of two (2) 322,400 DWT Ore Containers for Helios Maritime. Assisted in completion of three (3) 4,800 TEU Container Carriers for APL during new construction from block fabrication to delivery.

1992 – 1995

ABS Europe, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Surveyor

Carried out repair, modification, Class, Change of Class, Condition Assessment, and Statutory surveys on ULCC, VLCC, MODUs and misc. vessels, including fabrication of two (2) leg assemblies for one (1) MODU.

1989 – 1992

Surveyor

Carried out repair, modification, Class, Change of Class, Condition Assessment, and Statutory Surveys on TAPS trade Tankers, Double Hulled tankers, Container Vessels, Passenger Ferry Vessels, and misc. vessels. Completed new construction of one deck barge. Attended new construction of FRP Vessels periodically.

Performed watch standing and maintenance aboard the U.S. flag oil tanker (this was a temporary leave of absence from ABS to upgrade license).

Oversaw the complete reconstruction of the U.S. flag cruise ship, S.S. “Monterey”. Attended and approved all ABS and USCG inspections regarding classification and updating of all equipment, systems, and structures, including operation of ship’s systems during initial light off through Sea Trials, to current regulations. Documented all repairs and inspections completed and pending. Worked extensively with Wartsila Marine executives on contract negotiations. Computerized ship’s spare parts inventory using MMS.
