Containerization was a great idea that had existed for a while, but it needed a killer app. Malcolm McLean found the killer app, and the 8 foot wide cargo container changed the world.
This presentation proposes that possibly today there may be killer apps where we can introduce five foot wide car standardization. Standard width cars will provide the same level of transportation efficiency increases that shipping containers provided.
